Nigeria to host international gaming conference to attract foreign investments and boost lottery business. In a bid to expand Nigeria’s business landscape and stimulate economic growth, the Federal Government has given the green light to bring the annual gaming conference organised by the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) to international standards. Lanre Gbajabiamila, the Director-General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, made this announcement in a press release issued in Abuja. The 2023 edition of the conference is scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 1. Unlike the previous edition, which primarily involved Nigerian stakeholders and industry players, this year’s conference is set to feature prominent figures from the gaming industry in Africa and around the world. Gbajabiamila emphasised the NLRC’s intention to provide Nigerian gaming industry leaders and potential investors with opportunities to connect and interact with global gaming industry giants. The 2023 International Gaming Conference will be hosted at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. However, recent developments in Nigeria have seen the banning of over 30 operators for regulatory breaches, urging the public to refrain from gambling with these brands. Overall, Africa’s gambling sector has been experiencing significant growth, with South Africa and Nigeria emerging as key markets according to analysts — South Africa’s online and offline gambling sector is predicted to exceed $2.3 bn in 2023.
