Adjumani Fortebet Staff Shot in Armed Robbery

A female staff of Fortebet in Adjumani Town Council is nursing gunshot wounds after she was shot in the left thigh by armed robbers.

The robbers made off with Shs130,000 from the betting centre after shooting and injuring Monica Acara, 26, who is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

According to witnesses, two men armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the busy Fortebet betting centre on Saturday evening.

One of them ordered everyone inside to remain still, while the other fired two live rounds, one of which struck a female staff in the left thigh.

“After hearing the first gunshot, I dropped to the ground and stayed there. I didn’t know what the armed robbers would do next,”

–  a bettor who preferred anonymity said.

Adjumani Resident District Commissioner Peter Taban Data confirmed the incident, stating:

“Police is investigating the matter and the victim is out of danger, undergoing treatment.”

Fortebet, one of the major betting companies in the country that still maintains a huge physical presence besides the digital format, has yet to speak on the incident.
