African operator up but not yet back

Major South African casino operator Tsogo Sun Gaming saw its income jump 57 per cent in its first quarter, reported last week.

Revenues reached ZAR8.9bn (€530.9m) and operating profit was up to ZAR2.7bn (€161m). The company’s hotels rebounded strongly since it was taken out of the Tsogu Sun Holdings group in 2019.

It is now planned to change the name of the hotels division from Tsogo Sun Hotels back to its former name, Southern Sun.

The casino division’s results are still being impacted by the pandemic precautions and are not yet back to pre-Covid levels.
