Arsenal – Wolves | 29/11/2020

Arsenal will be aiming to get their Premier League campaign back on track when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The Gunners have won just one of their last five top-flight matches and enter the weekend’s fixtures down in 12th, one point behind opponents Wolves.

Arsenal’s defence, which is the division’s joint-second best ahead of this gameweek, has been let down by an attack that hasn’t scored in open play for five consecutive Premier League (PL) matches. Subsequently their nine goals after nine rounds – Arsenal’s lowest tally since 1986/87 – and just four wins (D1, L4) sees the ‘Gunners’ slipping down the table.

With a growing injury list, woes upfront, and consecutive PL home defeats ‘to nil’, Arsenal are now on the verge of registering three top-flight home losses without scoring for the first time since December 1908 – the year Ford’s revolutionary Model T was introduced to the world! However you must go back to 1978/79 for the last time Arsenal failed to score in a home clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In fact, Arsenal have netted before HT in three of the last four home H2Hs (W1, D3). That’ll concern Wolves who have failed to score before HT in 34 PL games since the start of 2019/20 – more than any other side. However, just one loss from their previous six matches will have Wolves travelling here believing they can win at Arsenal for the first time since September 1979.

Whilst still early days, Wolves’ 50% win-rate in PL road trips (W2, L2) is better than what they managed last season (36.84%). However, an average of just 0.75 goals scored per away game is poor.
