Atletico Madrid – Celta Vigo | 08/02/2021

Atletico Madrid will be looking to continue their apparent charge towards the La Liga title when they welcome Celta Vigo to the Spanish capital on Monday night. Diego Simeone’s side are currently top of the table, 10 points clear of second-placed Barcelona with a game in hand, while Celta currently sit in 10th position, five points off the top seven.

Runaway table toppers Atlético Madrid are now just one victory away from matching their longest La Liga (LL) winning streak of the last decade. They previously strung together nine straight wins in their last title-winning campaign (2013/14), in which they also accrued 50 points in their first 19 matches.

Atlético have attained five HT/FT doubles in their current run of eight LL wins, with those composed performances being accompanied by an average of 2.38 goals per game in that period. That said, they have conceded before HT in each of their last three wins, including shipping the opening goal within the first 15 minutes twice.

Failing to score in three of their last five LL games, Celta Vigo have potentially slipped out of Europa League contention after a frustrating start to 2021. Their last three LL trips to Atlético have also seen them return home without a goal or competition point.

At the commencement of this LL round, Celta were one of eight clubs to have not won any of their last four away trips. Yet, their win rate of just 16.67% as a travelling outsider (W1, D2, L3) was only marginally below the league average of 18.11% at the same point.
