Champions League winners Bayern Munich take on Europa League victors Sevilla at the Puskas Arena on Thursday in the 2020 UEFA Super Cup. Bayern enter the fixture on an incredible run of form and are favourites to overcome Sevilla, who are competing in this showpiece fixture for a fourth time in six years.

Despite Bayern Munich and Sevilla appearing in the UEFA Super Cup a combined nine times, both have won this trophy just once. A good game looks likely though as of the seven finals featuring one of these teams since 2000, six produced over 2.5 goals, five saw both teams score, and none featured a goalless first half!

German champions Bayern got here by becoming the first team in history to win every game in a UEFA Champions League (UCL) season after netting an average of 3.91 goals per match, and still look sharp after demolishing Schalke 8-0 last week in what was the largest ever Bundesliga opening day win.

However, the two previous UEFA Super Cup games that featured German and Spanish clubs saw the La Liga side win on both occasions. That will give opponents Sevilla some hope as they try to end Bayern’s 22-game winning run in all competitions, and look to extend their own 21-game unbeaten streak.

Sevilla’s last two matches saw them concede the opener by the tenth minute but come back to win, and the previous three witnessed a level HT score. The only two previous H2Hs also saw a level HT scoreline, and neither saw Sevilla concede first (D1, L1). However if they do upset the odds and rebalance that H2H record it could be a tight game – six of their last eight competitive victories came via a one-goal margin.

Bayern have been unstoppable both domestically and in Europe this calendar year, winning 30 of their last 31 games as they became the first side ever to win every game en route to lifting the Champions League.

Sevilla can also be pleased with their debut campaign under Lopetegui, which ended with yet more European silverware, but it is difficult to see them halting the Bayern juggernaut in Budapest.
