ONLINE BBI report could see Kenya join these countries that have banned betting 5 years ago Iwo Bulski Post Views: 1,116 The Building Report Initiative (BBI) released on Wednesday has recommended abolishment of betting in the country. The report released in presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta at Bomas of Kenya proposes that Kenya’s sports betting operators “be replaced with a government-run national lottery whose proceeds, as is the case in other countries, are used for activities that uplift the youth, sports, culture and other social activities beneficial to citizens.” The report further claims that private betting industry “is leading to hopelessness and greater poverty.” Game Yetu looks at some of the countries across the world where many people do not enjoy gambling on their favourite online casinos and sports betting sites. In these countries where gambling is either regulated or prohibited, those found breaking the law end up in jail or face stiff penalties in some cases. UNITED ARAB EMIRATES is an Islamic country with strict anti-gambling laws and gambling is illegal for its citizens. All forms of gambling activities are considered illegal, and even sports betting is not permissible. Cambodia– gambling is illegal for natives, but land-based gambling is legal for foreign visitors. However, several casinos cater for tourists and generate significant revenue. North Korea – government has forbidden both online and offline gambling but interestingly it is legal for tourists on guided tours. Japan – land-based gambling is illegal, however sports betting activities are allowed, and casinos can be opened in resorts as a form of entertainment. Singapore – has banned all forms of online gambling under the Singapore Remote Gambling Act unless an exemption has been made. However, some operators have been granted an exemption by the government. That is public lotteries are permitted and regulated by the government. Cyprus – online sports betting is allowed with a license. Czech Republic – majority of online gambling is illegal (except online lottery and online sports betting) Qatar– has made all forms of gambling illegal including sports betting. However, some people access foreign-based sites to gamble but if caught, he or she will have to face the consequences. Lebanon – the law states that gambling of any kind that is unauthorised and the government has the power to block online casinos too. Online gambling is only allowed at a designated online casino, Poland – gambling in Poland is controlled by strict government monopoly and gambling with offshore operators is technically permitted but unregulated.
