Belgium – Denmark | 18/11/2020

The decider in League A Group 2 of the UEFA Nations League takes place on Wednesday as current leaders Belgium face off against second-placed Denmark at Den Dreef. The hosts are two points above their opponents ahead of this winner-takes-all tie, with top spot and a place in next year’s finals at stake for both countries.

After beating England 2-0 with a brace inside the opening 25 minutes, Belgium only need a point to sail into the UEFA Nations League (UNL) finals. Impressively, Roberto Martinez’ men have now won ten (L2) of their last 12 competitive games played against teams currently ranked inside FIFA’s top-40.

Eight of those ten wins detailed above yielded a 2+ goal margin, and indeed, Belgium have scored exactly twice in one half in each of their last four victories overall. The ‘Red Devils’ have also won six of their last eight competitive home meetings vs teams currently in FIFA’s top-40. Four of those wins produced second halves yielding over 1.5 total goals.

Denmark must win to remain in contention for their first major silverware since 1992. Currently on their first run of five successive wins since 2011, Denmark have lost just once in their last 13 games against a current UNL League A side (W6, D6, L1), with six of those games producing a goal inside the opening 20 minutes.

The Danes have scored the opener in each of their last 16 wins, showing their potential to spoil the expected party in Belgium if they net first. Of the 16 halves played against current UNL League A or B opposition within that group of wins, nine (56.25%) saw them win 1-0.
