The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has kicked off a campaign to shut illegal gambling activities countrywide.

Led by the Director BCLB Peter Mbugi, the board commenced the process in Machakos where security officers destroyed and burned illegal and unlicensed betting machines.

The board is set to mount similar campaigns in other counties that have reported a higher prevalence of illegal betting activities.

“This is one of the activities that the board has decided to undertake and we are going around talking to the county security and sub-county security teams on how we can be able to collaborate to fight illegal gambling activities in the country,” – he stated.

Mbugi thanked the Machakos County Commissioner and the security agencies for the enormous effort they have showcased in the eradication of unlicensed betting operations. He urged county security teams to collaborate with the board to wage a successful campaign.

Mbugi further stated that a new law is on the way that will clarify the roles of the national and county governments in regulating gambling activities.

He said the law will harmonize the operations of the national and county governments to ensure effective regulation.

“You will be seeing us more in various counties, and I would like to thank the county commissioner and the team in Machakos because they have done quite a lot in terms of clearing these machines from the communities,” – he stated.

Mbugi stated that the strategic move to destroy the machines and other illegal betting activities aims to avert the disastrous effects on the community.
