BETTING HOT NEWS KENYA Betting company donates maternity equipment 3 years ago Samuel Post Views: 380 The community around Chogoria Mission Hospital has a reason to smile after SportPesa Company donated maternity equipment worth Sh1.7 million, barely days after the medical facility launched a rental unit. With the donation of maternity equipment and the operational renal unit the medical facility has tremendously reduced the cost of expectant mothers and kidney patients’ management in terms of distance covered and time taken as they used to travel to other counties for specialized maternity and dialysis services. Speaking while handing over the assortment of the maternity equipment to the facility, Sports Pesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri said lack of maternity equipment in health facilities is contributing to most cases of maternal deaths and they are dedicated towards ensuring the challenge is solved. “Our Corporate Social Responsibility is aimed at improving maternal health care as part of our contribution in partnering with the government to address high maternal deaths and infant mortality rates,” – said the SportPesa boss. Karauri noted that Chogoria Hospital progress has been hampered by lack of funds and if supported it can rise above other medical facilities. He said currently many areas country-wide need attention and it requires unity and charity to achieve the desired progress. “As things stand nationally, many sectors and especially the health sector need to be fixed. This will not be achieved through blame game and that is why we have decided to chip in where we can as our corporate Social Responsibility,” – Captain Karauri said. The betting company through SportPesa Foundation has also donated kits to 15 football clubs around Chogoria area under the kits for Africa in what Karauri said is helping the youths to realize their talents. Chogoria Hospital CEO Ms Catherine Munene lauded SportPesa for the donation, which she said has come at the right time and will be of great help to the facility. Munene said being a faith-based organization, they suffer shortage of funds unlike government facilities which are funded by the state, thus receiving such equipment is a big boost. She admitted that modern equipment in Maternity department are vital for service delivery to the deserving patients, which such faith based health facilities were finding it hard to acquire. Among the equipment that the betting company donated to the hospital were infant Radiant warmers and baby incubators.
