EXPERTS GHANA Betting tax policy: Collection difficult, we haven’t collected a cedi 7 months ago Samuel Post Views: 272 The Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, has disclosed that the government’s 10% tax on betting has not yet been fully realised, despite being officially announced. The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) announced plans for the tax, aimed at expanding the tax base, to be implemented on August 15, 2023. However, Sammi Awuku revealed in an interview on Oyerepa Breakfast Time that the tax has not been operational due to challenges with the framework. “The truth and the reality is that we’ve not been able to implement the betting tax policy.” “As Director General for the National Lottery, I’ve not been able to implement it. We haven’t been able to collect even a cedi.” “As I sit here, I haven’t been able to collect the tax because the framework was difficult. We’re still in discussion with GRA and the Ministry of Finance on the modalities,” – he explained.
