Chelsea – Sevilla | 20/10/2020

The UEFA Champions league is back in action for the European Giants for the season 2020 – 2021. Stamford Bridge will host a mouthwatering Champions League contest on Tuesday night as Chelsea welcome Europa League holders Sevilla in Group E. Both teams will fancy their chances of advancing from a section that also includes Krasnodar and Rennes, and it should be a fascinating match between the two teams in the English capital.

Chelsea are aiming to progress from the group stage of a UEFA Champions League (UCL) campaign for a sixth consecutive time. However, the ‘Blues’ have won just one of their last seven UCL home games (W1, D4, L2), and last won at home against UCL opposition drawn from pots 1-3 back in December 2015.

Every one of those four draws mentioned above saw both teams score in the second half, with the 61st-75th minute period alone averaging 2.25 total goals per match across them. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s last Premier League home game (D 3-3) saw both teams score inside the opening 15 minutes of the second half.

Claiming four of the last seven UEFA Europa League (UEL) titles, Sevilla have earned their fourth UCL group stage appearance of the last decade, having progressed to the knockouts in 2016/17 and 2017/18. They enjoyed just two road victories (D5, L2) in those tournaments though, if excluding qualification play-offs.

However, victory in all four 2019/20 UEL knockouts held at neutral venues complements a nine-game unbeaten La Liga away run (W4, D5) that was only recently ended with ten men at Granada. Sevilla are likely to be at their most dangerous after the HT break, having lost just one second half of competitive football (at any venue) since March 1 (2H: W13, D7, L1).
