England gambling venues forced to close until at least mid-February

Land-based casinos in Great Britain were forced to go into lockdown again as the country was issued a new stay at home order as part of on-going efforts to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic.

As registered cases of the virus rose in the last month, Prime Minister Boris Johnson established the third lockdown for England since the beginning of the pandemic.

Gatherings are banned and people are asked to remain inside except for exercise and work related tasks that cannot reasonably be completed from their home.

As non-essential businesses, land-based casinos, betting shops and bingo halls are not allowed to stay open while the stay at home order is in place.

The current lockdown is expected to last for at least six weeks and land-based casinos are expected to remain closed until mid-February at the earliest.

Unlike previous lockdowns, professional sports will be allowed to continue which should limit the impact on online sportsbook operators.

It is the third lockdown UK casinos will endure, the first one being in March 2020 and the second one in November.
