Manchester City and Everton will both be looking to build on Boxing Day victories in the Premier League when the two high-flyers lock horns at Goodison Park on Monday evening. City cruised to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday, while Everton left it late to beat Sheffield United 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

Everton’s Boxing Day victory handed them their fourth straight Premier League (PL) win for the second time this season – the last time they achieved that feat was during their top-flight winning campaign of 1986/87! Those recent good results have been built on a defence that hasn’t conceded more than a single goal in six PL matches, or conceded over 3.5 shots on target in any of the previous five league matches.

The ‘Toffees’ left it late at Bramall Lane, yet they are usually at their most dangerous in the first half. They’ve scored 61.54% of their league goals during this period and consequently have trailed at HT just twice (HT: W7, D6, L2). They’re yet to score a home league goal inside the opening 15 minutes though, but have conceded twice in this segment.

Manchester City are undefeated in six PL matches (W4, D2) after scoring the opening goal in five of those six, each time before the 31st minute. Impressively, they’ve now kept 13 clean sheets in all competitions this season, more than any other team across Europe’s top five divisions.

Pep Guardiola’s side have lost only one of their previous nine PL away matches (W5, D3, L1), yet despite that decent record, goals have been a rare commodity for City and they’ve scored under 1.5 in each of their previous six such matches. However they have scored 2+ goals in their three most recent trips to Goodison Park (W3).
