Everton – Newcastle | 05/04/2021

Everton will aim to keep their fleeting hopes of a top-four finish alive when they welcome Crystal Palace to Goodison Park for Monday’s Premier League encounter. The Toffees entered the international break on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup, while Palace managed to return to winning ways with a 1-0 triumph over West Bromwich Albion.

Everton are hoping to bounce back from three consecutive defeats before the international break here, all three of which saw the ‘Toffees’ concede exactly two goals. This has been a common issue throughout their Premier League (PL) campaign, highlighted by the fact that they’ve conceded twice or more in 46.43% of their PL matches – including four of their previous five at home.

The Merseysiders still have ambitions of securing European football for next season, yet they’ll need to improve their home form to do so. Just 36.96% of their league points have been won at home this year, and only neighbours Liverpool (six) have lost more home PL games in 2021 than Everton (five).

Mid-table Crystal Palace were in decent form before the break, losing just one of their last five PL matches (W2, D2, L1). Including the goals they scored in that run, five of their previous six league strikes have arrived before HT. They also secured an impressive three clean sheets across that sequence, although you’d have to go back to mid-January for the last time they shut out an opponent on the road (W2, L3 since).

Roy Hodgson’s men do not have the best record against the better sides in the league, captured by the fact they’ve won only two of their 15 fixtures vs teams above them ahead of this game week (W2, D5, L8). They’re also winless in five visits to Goodison Park (D2, L3), failing to score more than a single goal in each.
