Both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to give their hopes of finishing in top four a boost when they meet at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Friday night. Everton are currently eighth in the table, seven points behind fourth-placed West Ham United, while Tottenham occupy seventh position, six points off the Champions League positions.

Poor recent results mean that both of these teams are in danger of being cut adrift in the race for European football. For Everton, it’s no win in five competitive matches (D2, L3), with their attack standing out as their biggest issue. They scored just two goals across that sequence and their combined four Premier League (PL) goals since the start of March is the division’s third-lowest total during that period.

Of all the teams inside the top ten, no side has a worse home record than the ‘Toffees’ (W5, D3, L7), and just one of those PL home victories came across their last eight league fixtures at Goodison Park (D2, L5). Despite that poor record, it’s worth noting that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have trailed at HT in just two of their 15 home league matches (HT: W6, D7).

Tottenham’s recent five-game competitive form isn’t much better than their hosts (W1, D1, L3), although they have offered more in attack – they’ve scored 2+ goals in six of their previous ten matches. Specifically in the league though, a big issue has been holding onto advantages, and their total of 18 points dropped from winning positions is second only to Brighton.

A positive for away boss José Mourinho is that he travels to Goodison Park knowing Tottenham are unbeaten in their previous eight competitive away visits here (W3, D5 – 90 mins only), and even scored 3+ goals – and netted in both halves – in three of their most recent four!
