Speaking during the announcement, the company CEO said: ” It was clear that sports fans in Nigeria and across Africa are in for a treat as CEO and Founder Flutterwave, Mr Olugbenga GB Agboola, disclosed, “It’s time to cheer for Africa.” He said the sponsorship would help the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB) offer a world-class AFCON 2021 on free-to-air television in Nigeria and across the continent. Flutterwave affirmed the importance of sports and partnered with a platform that would provide top-notch content in sports stating that “Uniting Africa through sports is just as important as the work we do in uniting Africa through payments and commerce. Today, we have partnered with AfroSport Network, Africa’s first Free To Air (FTA) sports channel, to broadcast the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on free-to-air networks across Africa to grow our unity as a continent. Flutterwave is a payment technology startup that helps sports betting companies and other sectors worldwide extend their operations in Africa and other emerging countries by providing a platform that allows them to conduct cross-border transactions using a single API. Flutterwave has raised $225 million in total and is one of the few African startups to have secured more than $200 million in funding. Afrosport TV is a Nigerian 24-hour free continent-wide sports channel that broadcasts top-notch material in sports previously only available on pay-TV networks. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has increased its prize money for the winner for the 33rd edition of AFCON. CAF has revealed the official fixture schedule for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations following the successful draw in Yaounde, Cameroon. The first match took place at Olembe Stadium on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
