Gambling has been present as a form of entertainment in Angola since the 1900s, this is especially true since the evidence shows that land-based gambling has been under the government’s regulation in the colonial era. Then Angola was still under Portuguese rule. The sector has, however, experienced no significant changes since 1975 when the local government took over from the Portuguese rulers. For this reason, the gambling sector has remained underdeveloped over the past few decades. Angola is one of the countries that has embraced the use of bitcoins for payment of services. This is especially the case since 2018, when the country fully adopted the cryptocurrency technology across various business settings. Gambling and Law in Angola Gambling is legal in the country. The legal age for gambling is 18 years of age and above. All forms of gambling are regulated through a general law, without specific laws for each. In 2016, a law by the national parliament was adopted to regulate casinos, online gambling, and lotteries through taxation. Also, the law required that all casinos and gaming platforms in the country to have valid licenses before operating in the country. In addition to the aforementioned goals, the laws aimed at reducing the effects of the monopoly created by a group of casinos to allow new entities into the casino industry.
