Hertha Berlin – Union Berlin | 04/12/2020

Hertha Berlin host Union Berlin in the Berlin derby on Friday, with the visitors looking to move to third in the table with a victory. Hertha, meanwhile, have won just one of their last eight league matches, but did earn a creditable 0-0 draw at Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

It’s derby day in Berlin as Hertha Berlin welcome Union Berlin having previously won four of six historical Bundesliga H2Hs versus teams from Germany’s capital (L2 – one loss against this opponent). However with Hertha winning just one of their last eight league games (D2, L5), despite scoring a first-half opener in four of the previous five, there’s no guarantee of another derby success here.

That’s even more so considering Hertha are suffering their worst-ever four-game Bundesliga start at home (D1, L3), after conceding in six of eight halves of home league football played so far. Furthermore, Hertha have already forfeited five points here after scoring a first-half opener, yet their last home game saw them lead at HT for the first time here this season, but also saw them concede multiple second-half goals here for the first time too.

This derby’s come at the right time for Union who are enjoying their longest-ever unbeaten Bundesliga run (W4, D4). However the last round did see them concede multiple goals for the first time since opening day, and notably, they are yet to win this season when conceding first (D2, L1).

The visitors remain unbeaten away despite conceding once in each of their four away league games (W2, D2). All four of those road trips saw a drawn first half, whilst the previous three witnessed Union score first before conceding an equaliser.
