Italian Grand Prix – qualifying

The first two practice sessions in Formula 1 before qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix were won by Mercedes drivers.

This is not particularly surprising considering that Mercedes has the most powerful engine. On this track, more than 70% of the time is driving with a trottile in the floor. Even though the engines cannot be mapped to qualifying since this race, the Silver Arrows competitor’s victory is almost certain. Mercedes has such a big qualifying advantage that it will be hard to hold them back, especially at Monza. In addition, the team will certainly want to use a stream of lower pressure air on the starting straight behind one of their cars in case of trouble, which will certainly help them if necessary.
