EXPERTS SOUTH AFRICA Johannesburg Police Shutdown Illegal Online Gambling Shop in Randburg 2 weeks ago Szarlot Post Views: 107 The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) recently made significant strides in combatting illegal activities by uncovering and shutting down an illegal online gambling shop in Newlands, Randburg. Prompt action by the JMPD Operations team led to the discovery of this illicit establishment, resulting in arrests and the seizure of evidence. Unveiling the Gambling Shop On Sunday, 21 May 2023, while conducting routine patrols, vigilant JMPD officers noticed a shop located on Long Road in Newlands. The officers became suspicious due to the unusual influx of people entering and exiting the premises. Acting on their intuition, the officers decided to investigate further, suspecting illegal activities were taking place within the shop. Their suspicions were confirmed upon entering the premises, where they discovered a room filled with computers actively engaged in online gambling. Questioning the Shop’s Management Realizing the gravity of the situation, the JMPD officers approached the individual in charge of the gambling shop and requested the necessary registration papers and operational license. However, the manager failed to provide any documents that would legitimize the business, raising further suspicions about its illegal nature. In a separate incident, the JMPD joined forces with various law enforcement agencies to apprehend a group of notorious jewelry store robbers. These criminals had recently conducted a business robbery at a jewelry store located in Polokwane’s Savannah Mall, Limpopo, causing alarm in the community. Successful Arrest Operation Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the SAPS Limpopo Tracking Team, Limpopo Murder and Robbery unit, Pietermaritzburg Highway Patrol, Magma Investigations, and Security and Willie K9 Security, all five wanted suspects involved in the jewelry store robbery were successfully apprehended. The arrested individuals, ranging in age from 25 to 35, were taken into custody for their involvement in the incident that occurred on Friday, 12 May 2023, at approximately 09:00. Conclusion These recent operations carried out by the JMPD and other law enforcement agencies serve as a testament to their unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in Johannesburg and beyond. By effectively combating illegal activities, such as online gambling and robbery, these agencies contribute to the safety and security of the community they serve.
