Lagos Lotteries Board Instruct Gaming Agents to register

The Lagos State lotteries Board has announced October 29 as the deadline for gaming agents in the State to register on the State Agents Registration Platforms. This is part of the state government’s efforts to ensure proper regulation and guarantee protection for the state gaming agents. The Chief Executive Officer made this disclosure of Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, Mr. Bashir Are.

At the same time, he was speaking on the commencement of the Agents Registration Platform, which took effect from Monday, August 2, 2021, stressing that all Gaming Agents operating in the State must register on the site. He charged Gaming Agents to endeavour to register on the platform on or before Friday, October 29, 2021, to avoid sanction, adding that all necessary training and exposure had been obliged to them. The CEO reaffirmed that the agency is the only authorized gaming regulatory body established by the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Law 2021 to license and regulate lotteries and related gaming activities in the State. Are assured that the authority remains committed to protecting the interest of all stakeholders in the gaming sector.

In addition to highlighting the benefits of the registration exercise, which included covering the interest of Lagos State Gaming Agents, flushing out fraudulent agents, and granting access to Lagos State registered and licensed gaming operators.

“Other benefits are the permits fees which sere as Pay As You Earn (PAYE Tax) to Lagos State Internal Revenue Services (LIRS). And issuance of recognized State identity number as well as granting Agents direct access to SME loans amongst others.” – hi say.

Meanwhile, Lagos state has been at the forefront of the gaming and betting industry. That is essentially why the Lagos State Lotteries Board was established by the Lagos State Lotteries Law 2004 as amended to license and regulate lotteries and related gaming activities conducted within the State. The Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in April 2021 assented to the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Bill of 2021, initiated by the executive arm to coordinate activities of lotteries agencies operating within the State. After signing the two bills into law, Sanwo-Olu said the action was a testimony to the State Government’s efforts towards entrenching accountability in governance and checking malfeasance among officers entrusted with public resources.

Nonetheless, the State further highlighted the challenges despite the global coronavirus pandemic crisis. The Lagos state lotteries board announced that the Board exceeds the set target for 2021 by 100 per cent. The Board has called for continuous support and commitment of lottery, sports betting, and other gaming operators in the State towards achieving the Board set plans to make Lagos gaming hub and the best in Africa.

Speaking at the 2020 Lagos Gaming Operator’s Dinner and Awards Ceremony, held at Oriental Hotel Victoria Island earlier this year, the Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Lotteries Board, Mr. Bashir Abiola Are, advised the operators to always focus on positivity. Are disclosed that the Board met the set target and recorded over a 100 per cent increase in the set target by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that enviable accomplishment amid the numerous wrongs that characterized the year 2020 is a testament to the grace of God and the tenacity of a relentless team of hardworking individuals at the State lotteries board.
