LAWS REGULATING LAND-BASED GAMBLING IN DRC Since the year 2005, gambling has been legal in the DRC for all “games of chance”. The legal age for gambling in the country is between 18 and 21 years of age. One of the most significant regulations for brick and mortar casinos in DRC is that for one to operate they must be registered and licensed by the relevant authorities. Additionally, the casino management has to keep their profile well updated with the taxing requirements, failure to which the licenses can be revoked. The laws and regulations have been specifically put in place for all “games of chances”, thus leaving out “games of skill” unregulated. This means that games like poker and Blackjack whose results can be altered depending on the skills of the gambler are not clearly defined or regulated by the law. This, however, doesn’t mean that games of skill are unavailable. These games are available at Casinos in the country. It is good to note that the country currently lacks a gaming board/ authority, therefore, all gambling matters are overseen by the government. Conclusion The Congolese population comprises of many gambling youths. Due to popularity of the football game, many of them are fond of gaming. Their national team has participated in several competitions including the African Cup of nations. Some popular players have played in international leagues in Europe. Nonetheless, casino gambling is not a preserve for the youths alone. There are enthusiastic adults who like to spend some of their fortunes in the gaming world. Due to the vibrant land based casinos in DRC, there are even foreign nationals who flock the facilities to enjoy some entertainment. About Post Author Peris Wambu “Hey, Peris here!
