Leeds – Crystal Palace | 30/11/2021

Leeds United and Crystal Palace will both be aiming to return to winning ways during Tuesday’s Premier League clash at Elland Road. Marcelo Bielsa’s side were held to a goalless stalemate by Brighton & Hove Albion last time out, while the Eagles went down 2-1 to Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

Leeds United’s season has been hampered by their consistently underwhelming performances. The off-colour ‘Lilywhites’ continue to teeter on the brink of the relegation zone, in part due to a return of just one win across their last six Premier League (PL) games (W1, D3, L2), and that win was against 19th-placed relegation frontrunners Norwich.

For all of their problems, Leeds have conceded just two first-half goals across their last ten games. The problems faced by Marcelo Bielsa’s men go beyond that though, as they rarely improve after the break. In fact, Leeds are the only PL side to lose twice when leading at half-time, while also drawing a league-high five games at both half-time/full-time.

Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace have avoided defeat in seven of their last eight PL games (W2, D5). While they have proven plucky, Vieira was left to rue his team’s lack of concentration yet again last time out. Their seven-game unbeaten run ended on Saturday (1-2 vs Aston Villa), with the ‘Eagles’ conceding their tenth set-piece goal of the season – a PL-high.

Yet of all PL sides to start at least two games as outsiders this season, the South Londoners boast a league-high 75% unbeaten rate in such games (W2, D4, L2). Even so, they have won just one of their five away league games as pre-match outsiders (D2, L2), suggesting this will be a tough encounter to call either way.
