Meanwhile, the Mauritius Revenue Authority’s (MRA) move is connected to reports that those who work in the country’s casino operators and players collide to tamper with these slot machines depriving the Authority of adequately monitoring and generate accurate revenue. The essence of the Central Electronic Monitoring System for Gaming Machines (CEMS-GM) that the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) wants to install will soon become a reality by the end of March. According to the Authority, this new monitoring system will curb money laundering and illegalities in casino outlets. In the sports betting industry, the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) had already installed a server to keep an eye on the odds of horses managed by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).

However, one of the authority executives says, – “The MRA intends to monitor slot machines. According to the former GRA executive, its approach is in line with its desire to fight money laundering because dirty laundering money in casinos has become a common practice. “The modus operandi is simple after exchanging his money for tokens, and the player does not bet anything, he also does not cash the chips, he then comes to collect the rest, and he is never alone. He operates in a group, “he says. Therefore, the MRA is the body responsible for gaming tax collection in Mauritius that encompasses the betting taxes and betting duties which are imposed under section 60 (1) (d) and 114 of the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) Act. Some operators licensed under the Act are subject to gambling tax and responsible gambling levy regarding some of their activities.

Meanwhile, recently the GRA has set out plans to regulate the online gambling sector by creating a platform for online betting and gambling. As part of the GRA initiative of combating money laundering through online gambling and generating substantial tax generation revenue. Simultaneously combat illegal gambling and what related to problems related to money laundering and curb Mauritanians from participating in online gambling reserve, which is strictly for foreigners.

However, the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) is a body corporate established in 2007 that now operates under the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development. The Authority is administered and managed by a Gambling Regulatory Board. The main objects of the Authority are to regulate and control gambling and gaming activities and ensures that gambling is conducted fairly and transparently. It is quite interesting that the Mauritius authority has shown the commitment to adopt technology for the industry. As a model to generate substantial income and tack illegal and money laundering, with this approach, it is a model for other regulatory board authorities in Africa to adopt in monitoring gambling operators for a fair and transparent industry.
