Nigerians spend over €1.7 billion on sports betting every year, according to new research data. The information also shows that sports betting generates at least €4.8 million every day in the African country.

According to local media The Breaking Times. over 60 million punters spend approximately €8 every day on bets. There are 50 sports betting sites in Nigeria, and the number is likely to increase in the upcoming years.

The respondents told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they place bets to generate quick and easy income. They also said that they want to turn their passion for sports into something profitable.

Moreover, the research statistics indicate that over 14 million bet stakes and payments happen through the internet every day, but that rate has no impact on retail shops.
