CASINO UGANDA Over 1,000 Gambling Machines Destroyed as Uganda 2 months ago Samuel Post Views: 476 The Uganda Gaming Board has escalated its fight against illegal gambling, initiating the destruction of 1,092 unlicensed gaming and betting machines seized in nationwide operations. The equipment, linked to exploitative practices in vulnerable communities, is being dismantled by the National Enterprise Corporation (NECU), the UPDF’s commercial arm, through its certified e-waste management division. This decisive action aims to eradicate unlawful gambling networks, safeguard public welfare, and uphold sector transparency. Government Leaders Applaud Regulatory Action Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Minister for East African Community Affairs and former Speaker of Parliament, publicly endorsed the Board’s efforts, remarking in a social media post: “Long overdue. I have complained over the years about the Machines that have been installed in rural areas to entice our poor peasants into gambling, but no-one was listening.” Seizures Surge as Enforcement Capacity Grows Responding to Minister Kadaga, the Board disclosed that over 4,000 illegal gaming devices have been confiscated to date. Structural reforms, including expanded staffing and new regional offices in Mbarara, Gulu, and Mbale, have bolstered operations. “With government support, we’re better equipped to protect citizens from gambling harms and dismantle rogue operators,” – the Board stated. Strengthening Cross-Agency Collaboration Further solidifying its enforcement strategy, the Board’s leadership, led by CEO Denis Mudene, convened a high-level meeting yesterday with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA). Discussions with Acting Commissioner of Customs Mr. Asadu Kigozi Kisitu focused on tighter border controls to block illegal gaming imports and strategies for inter-agency cooperation. “This partnership marks a critical step in fortifying our defenses against unlawful activities,” – the Board noted. Commitment to Public Protection These coordinated efforts reflect the Gaming Board’s resolve to foster a regulated, ethical gaming environment. By dismantling illegal networks, expanding enforcement capabilities, and engaging stakeholders nationwide, the Board reaffirms its mandate to prioritize citizen safety and industry accountability.
