Poland – Bosnia-Herzegovina | 14/10/2020

Poland play host to Bosnia-Herzegovina in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday evening knowing that maximum points may be enough to move into first place in Group A1. However, just three points separate top and bottom, giving the visitors a window of opportunity to become a factor higher in the standings.

Following a goalless draw with group leaders Italy last time out, Poland’s only UEFA Nations League (UNL) victory to date (W1, D3, L3) has actually come against Bosnia & Herzegovina. However, the hosts have been impressive of late, winning six of their last eight games (W6, D1, L1), including a comeback win in one of the two matches in which they conceded first.

Poland’s (FIFA rank: #19) record vs sides ranked within ten places of Bosnia (#50) since EURO 2016 qualifying stands at: W5, D3, L2. Interestingly, these games were often goal-fuelled affairs, with six seeing both teams score and over 2.5 goals. In fact across those ten fixtures, there was an average of 3.4 goals per game.

After winning their opening three UNL games in the last campaign, Bosnia have failed to win each of the following four to this point (D3, L1), an indicator of the increased calibre of opposition they’ve faced in League A. The visitors have struggled recently, winning just four games since the start of 2019 (W4, D4, L6), with ten of those games producing over 2.5 goals and 64.29% witnessing both teams score.

Bosnia’s record vs similarly-ranked UEFA nations to Poland (#12 to #27) since Euro 2016 qualifying also stands at a rather underwhelming: W3, D6, L3. These games were largely tame affairs, with an average of just 1.83 goals per fixture.
