BETTING WORLD NEWS Record 100 million geolocation checks during Super Bowl LVII weekend 1 month ago Samuel Post Views: 103 A record 100 million geolocation checks were conducted by GeoComply across 23 US states and the District of Columbia with legal, online sports betting during Super Bowl LVII weekend. The meeting between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles took place in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday, representing the first Super Bowl to take place in a state with legal sports betting. The former won the thrilling contest 38-35. The 100 million geolocation checks conducted on Saturday and Sunday represent a 25% increase from last year’s Super Bowl weekend, while GeoComply registered 7.4 million accounts this time around, up 32% from last year. Moreover, data shows over 100,000 geolocation checks in and around the host venue – State Farm Stadium – from more than 8,000 fan sportsbook accounts. New York topped all states with 13.9 million checks over the weekend. The recently regulated state of Ohio is already making moves in the US, joining New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan in GeoComply’s top five states ranked by geolocation transactions over the Super Bowl weekend. “Super Bowl LVII was a record-breaking event,” – said GeoComply Co-Founder & CEO Anna Sainsbury. “GeoComply data reveals that Americans’ interest in legally betting on the Super Bowl has never been higher. It also showed that many fans at State Farm Stadium embraced their newfound ability to bet while watching the game in person.” GeoComply added that the event was also a major target for online criminals aiming to take advantage of increased consumer interest, with the group’s technology spotting and blocking over 140,000 fraud attempts in the week leading up to the match. “It’s no secret that online fraud is a growing concern across all forms of e-commerce. Online sports betting may be a target for fraud, but because every bettor must verify their location, the industry has the data to stop it before it starts. GeoComply is proud to be a cyber security asset to the industry.”- added Sainsbury.
