South African Football Association President Arrested Over Allegations of Fund Misappropriation

The President of the n Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan, was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of misappropriating organization funds for personal use, as reported by Reuters.

Jordaan, known as a key figure in securing the 2010 FIFA World Cup for South Africa, attempted to delay his arrest through legal channels on Tuesday; however, the court hearing has been postponed to December 5.

The 73-year-old Jordaan, who was released on bail set at 20,000 rand (approximately $1,110), denies any wrongdoing. His arrest followed a police search of SAFA’s offices conducted in March.

A police spokesperson indicated that Jordaan is suspected of using organization resources for personal gain from 2014 to 2018, including hiring a private security firm for personal protection and collaborating with a public relations company without SAFA’s board approval.

In addition to Jordaan, other defendants appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court: SAFA’s Chief Financial Officer, Gronie Khuliyo, and businessman Trevor Nitling, who were also released on bail.
