EXPERTS UGANDA The role of performing arts in educating the youth against harmful gambling in Uganda 1 month ago Szarlot Post Views: 169 This project aims to utilize the power of performing arts as a tool for raising awareness, fostering community engagement, and advocating for responsible gambling practices. A large body of research has indicated that performing arts play a significant role in creating awareness and mobilizing communities towards changing perceptions and habits. For that matter, there is a great need to address the alarming rise in harmful gambling behaviours within our community. We believe that by leveraging the transformative potential of performing arts, we can effectively communicate the risks associated with gambling and inspire positive behavioural change. The project lead is Dr Branco Sekalegga (Department of Performing Arts and Film) at Makerere University, Uganda. Project news Researchers at Makerere University worked with young people in Kampala and Wakiso to produce the ideas behind this music video whose aim is to communicate the risks of gambling to young people. It offers a new way to educate, inform and engage young people in a way that resonates with them. Over coming months, it will be distributed to VJ’s, DJ’s and bus companies in Uganda and the impact evaluated. Watch the music video below.
