The robbery reportedly happened at one of the Fortbet branches on a storey AA Plaza building at Abaita Ababiri in Katabi town council, Wakiso district. It is alleged that while the workers at the Fortebet branch were closing the night shift and John Ssazi was closing the door, he was attacked by two men armed with a panga and suspected short-gun. The incident is said to have occurred as all the clients had been chased out of the betting facility since the management normally closes at exactly 4:00am. After being robbed, the three workers on the night shift were tied up and their mouths stuffed not to allow them to make an alarm before they were locked up in one of the counters at the scene of crime, intimated a source that preferred anonymity. Fortebet is guarded by Corporate security Services alongside the bouncers hired by the betting company. It’s further alleged that the bouncers never worked throughout the night whereas Julius Otim, the guard from Corporate security Services alleges that he guarded the place till morning, He claims to have not seen any person entering the betting facility, a police source said. The cleaner, Sarah Nassolo, who alleges to have reported to the betting facility at around 6:00am confirmed to have neither found a bouncer nor a private security guard at the entrance. She reportedly found the door open and some computers vandalised with people groaning from under the counter. She rushed to report to Abayita Ababiri Police Station which lies across the road, a few metres from the building. The same building, raised along Entebbe-Kampala highway, houses Opportunity Bank on the ground floor whereas the betting company is situated on the first floor and other offices plus apartments on the upper floors. The same stairway entrance is the exit. On every floor of the building are security guards, some manning the bank, others the betting premises whereas others guard upper offices and residential apartments. According to preliminary findings by Police, the CCTV cameras were found not to be functioning, which the management was aware of.It was also observed that the power on all the gaming machines and computers was on, while two computer monitors were found dropped on the floor next to the counter.
