Uganda Gaming Regulator Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Operations

The Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (LGRB) of Uganda has reinforced its commitment to a fair gaming sector with a recent enforcement operation in Western Uganda, resulting in the confiscation of 157 illegal gaming machines.

Conducted in collaboration with Uganda Police, the raid targeted unlicensed operators, uncovering illicit fish tables and slot machines.

During the operation, Rajab Mukwaya, an unlicensed operator in Masaka City, was arrested for allegedly possessing and operating gaming machines without LGRB authorization. Mukwaya faces charges at the Makindye Standard and Utilities Court, underscoring the Board’s zero-tolerance stance toward non-compliance.

The Gaming Board emphasized the importance of enforcement on their official X handle,

“We cannot talk about a fair and transparent gaming sector without emphasizing enforcement. Our enforcement team recently conducted ad-hoc enforcement in some parts of Western Uganda where they confiscated over 157 illegal gaming machines”

“We confiscated illegal fish tanks and slot machines and also arrested an illegal operator,” – an official from the Board explained.

Seizure and arrest send a clear message: unlicensed operations will not be tolerated. The Board also reiterated its warning to all operators, urging them to secure proper licensing to avoid legal repercussions.
Authorities highlighted the ongoing partnership with law enforcement to root out illegal activities, ensuring the sector’s integrity.

The LGRB advises the public to report suspicious gaming operations and reminds businesses that licensing is mandatory under Ugandan law.
