Valladolid – Barcelona | 11/07/2020

Barcelona’s pursuit of La Liga leaders Real Madrid will continue on Saturday night when they head to Estadio Municipal Jose Zorilla to take on Real Valladolid.
The Spanish champions will enter this weekend’s clash off the back of a 1-0 win over Espanyol on Wednesday, while Valladolid suffered a 2-1 defeat at Valencia 24 hours earlier.

Barca will surely have to win their final three games of the season against Valladolid, Osasuna and Alaves to stand a chance of finishing top of the pile.

The Catalan giants have not actually lost in the league since Real Madrid beat them at the start of March, but they have drawn three of their last six in La Liga, which has seen them relinquish control of first spot.

Quique Setien’s side will be the favourites to triumph this weekend, but they have lost five of their 17 away league games this term, recording just seven wins in the process.

Real Valladolid lost 5-1 in this campaign’s reverse fixture, but they are betting outsiders ahead of this clash for a more topical reason. They have enjoyed just one HT lead in their last 12 La Liga (LL) home matches, with the HT result replicated at the final whistle on seven occasions (58.33%) therein.

A 75% majority (six) of Valladolid’s eight post-restart halves played as hosts have produced no goals either way. With draws also being a prominent theme in Valladolid’s LL home games since early February (W2, D4, L1), it is notable that second halves across such draws averaged just 0.25 goals.

Since the start of February, Barcelona have lost only once in six LL away games, and recorded a 50% win rate (W3, D2, L1). Across the four games in that sequence to see them score at all, Barcelona consistently scored their first goal inside the opening 20 minutes each time.

Each of Barcelona’s last three LL away wins have seen them score inside the opening ten minutes, with a total first-half goals average of 3.33 across those victories (GF 7, GA 3). All of Barcelona’s goals conceded therein came inside the first 30 minutes.
