Wolves – Leeds | 19/02/2021

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since October when they welcome Leeds United to Molineux on Friday night. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will enter the contest off the back of a 2-1 victory at Southampton on Sunday, while Leeds suffered a 4-2 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on the same afternoon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 2-1 Premier League (PL) win at Southampton (Feb 14) continued a sequence of seven competitive matches with a different result to the last (W3, D2, L2). Such inconsistency leaves them in a comfortable mid-table position despite their failure to score first in any of the last 14 league fixtures involving them!

A pack with problems, Wolves have not thrived at home recently, as they’ve only won once here in five PL matches (W1, D2, L2). Interestingly, their 0-0 stalemate against Leicester City (Feb 7) marked a first goalless PL draw at Molineux since March 2020, while there hasn’t been one in this H2H since August 2004.

Leeds United begin this round two points and one place ahead of their hosts following Sunday’s 4-2 defeat at Arsenal. Four of their last five PL games have featured over 2.5 goals, and all five witnessed scoring in both halves. Seldom holding back, Leeds haven’t drawn any of their last 15 competitive matches (W7, L8), with five games therein featuring one side winning by 3+ goals.

After the last matchday, Leeds’ PL away games (W6, L6) featured a runaway league-high average of 4.17 goals per game this season. They have every apparent chance of getting that win-rate above the current 50%, as there had been a 39.57% overall majority of PL away wins as of Tuesday, underlining the continued impact of absent home fans.
