BETTING KENYA Woman Found Dead Inside Shop After Losing Ksh60,000 to Gambling 2 weeks ago Samuel Post Views: 107 A small-scale businesswoman in Kakamega County on Tuesday reportedly died by suicide after she lost Ksh60,000 in a gambling spree. Speaking to the press after the incident, the Kambiri area chief revealed that the deceased was found dead inside her shop which is located in Kakamega town. While narrating the ordeal, one of the deceased’s customers disclosed that moments before the demise, the businesswoman appeared disturbed while serving her, arousing the customer’s curiosity. “I visited the deceased at her shop and she seemed fine and we had a great conversation. We moved to her shop and continued with our conversation only to later realise that she is now dead,” – narrated the customer. Another witness who spoke to the press claimed that the businesswoman actively participated in gambling and that she did so on several occasions. “She used to participate in gambling using her phone only to lose Ksh60,000 but the problem is that she kept quiet about it leading to her death,” – revealed another witness. Meanwhile, the area chief, while narrating the ordeal, called on the area residents to freely express themselves especially when faced with problems to avoid such cases. The Chief noted that following the woman’s death, police officers had already launched a probe into the matter with the body of the deceased ferried to the mortuary awaiting postmortem. “To all the Kambiri residents, I want to urge them that in case they have a problem they should seek help and express themselves freely. Try and talk to your neighbour,” – said the area chief. “We still don’t have finer details of the incident but investigations have commenced and we anticipate more details on the incident.” In an analogous situation three months ago, a High School teacher in Nyamira County took his life after losing an unknown amount of money to gambling. The teacher was found dead inside his house after missing several classes. According to a police report, the deceased’s body was found hanging from the rooftop. “We tried reaching him all day but he was unavailable all day,” narrated a colleague.
